The Notre Dame Postdoctoral Fellow in Religion and American Public Life

Each year the Tocqueville Program seeks a postdoctoral teaching fellow who has received a recent Ph.D. from Notre Dame or another university who has specialized in some aspect of religion and American public life. The fellowships will allow the incumbent to develop teaching skills and additional research skills before moving on to a permanent position elsewhere. The fellow will be selected on a competitive basis and will be provided with a generous stipend.

Supplemental Graduate Student Stipends and Dissertation Fellowships

Seeking to promote the academic careers of Notre Dame students the Tocqueville Program will provide funding for graduate students interested in the topic of religion and American public life and who plan to enter the career fields of politics, social policy, the legal profession, non-profit management, or academia.

The graduate student stipends will go to two graduate students in their third year of studies to encourage students to write dissertations on themes related to religion and American public life. Faculty members associated with the Tocqueville program will recommend students for consideration based upon academic performance. Students may be in political science, history, philosophy, law, or sociology.

The dissertation fellowships will provide funding for a Ph.D. student to write a dissertation on some aspect of religion and public life. The fellowship will be awarded on a competitive basis and open to students in political science, history, philosophy, law, or sociology.
